Do you want to take control of your career and be your own boss?
Starting a business and becoming a contractor could be the perfect way to level up your life!
As a contractor, you will have freedom to choose your own projects, set your own rates, and work with the clients you want. Business ownership can be very rewarding, but you have to start off right.
Starting a contracting business, no matter what the trade craft, will come with challenges. You need to have the skills and experience necessary to complete client projects (which you likely have), but you will also need to be able to handle the business side of contracting and you need to learn to think like an entrepreneur. It will be a long road, but if you're willing to put in the work, becoming a contractor can be a very rewarding career.
Are you ready to make your dream a reality and get your business into the startup phase? Before you jump into anything, you need to understand that...
The entrepreneurial journey is the road less traveled. As of 2023, the civilian labor force amounted to 166.95 million people in the United States and out of that only 10.1% of the workforce is self-employed. The road less traveled. This is important to understand because there being so few brave individuals embarking on this journey is proof that not everyone knows the secrets to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Acknowledging that there is a lot to learn is key to success. You don't know what you don't know. This is proven by the 97% failure rate that exists for small businesses. So, when it comes to starting your own business and developing into a successful contracting business owner, there is a lot to learn. Embrace this fact and work hard to curb the learning curve and you can make things happen.
What is wore, according to Payscale.com, the average small business owner only makes $71,930. At 40 hours a week that's only $35.97 per hour. That's less that what most skilled craftsmen make working as an employee. And if you're a determined business owner working 50 hours a week that' works out to only $28.77 per hour.
Now, I don't know about you, but based on those statistics I definitely wouldn't want to start a business with the goal of being average. Who would trade an 8 hour work day for daily overtime if the reward is less than what you would be paid for only working 40 hours per week?
Even worse, 86.3% of small business owners make less than $100,000 a year in income in the United States. That means a mere 13.7% of all the business owners in the US have figured out how to maximize their efforts and make decent money. So, you have to get it figured out fast or you'll just be spinning your wheels. Avoid trial and error stealing your time and diminishing your efforts. Get your business started off on the right foot and establish a foundation of success for your business because how you start will determine how quickly you'll start winning.
